hi, i'm Nida
Ever since a young age, I've been interested in making art; whether it be drawing, painting, sculpting, or anything else. The idea of bringing together countless shapes and colors to create something new that stemmed from someone's very own imagination feels exciting. I started off doodling drawings in a tiny, old sketchbook and now love experimenting with different forms of art from collage to digital design.
Interestingly, I don’t have one specific niche as some artists usually do. My creative preferences regarding colors, styles, and themes is constantly changing based on what's trending or what I feel inspired by in the moment. Initially, this used to intimidate me because every designer has a certain style that defines them. I mistook my versatility as an artist for a lack of consistency in my art. As time went on, I realized this isn’t a weakness, but a strength. I’m still experimenting and trying to find my style, but for the time being, I’m glad that I’m able to portray different themes in my work. I don’t want to rush the process of finding what my forte is. Instead, I want to try to work with diverse aesthetics so I could expand my skill level instead of forcing myself to fit into a box creatively.
I graduated with a degree in Graphic Design at Benedictine University. I started off as a Health Science major my freshman year, but soon realized it was more of my parents’ dream for me to go into the medical field than mine. I took the decision to study Graphic Design instead. My parents were hesitant at first because they didn’t know if my artistic capability was enough for a career or if it was just a mere hobby. However, I knew that nothing else made me feel more excited, curious, passionate, and in awe than making or admiring art and design.
I'm glad I made the switch and decided to pursue something I love. I've been working as a freelance graphic designer for the past few years, and have worked on a variety of different projects like flyers, posters, social media posts, infographics, and more. I've also been working on personal projects on the side to improve my toolbox.
In January 2023, I received my UX design certification. I fell in love with the subject my senior year in college. Though I enjoy my current work, I believe I could use the skills I've learned on a more complex basis. I'm ready to branch out to another stage whilst I continue to utilize my graphic design knowledge.
